I had this question myself after visiting your booth at the farmer's market. I think I am going to go to move over to all natural soap soon. That is a terrific move!Mocassini verniciata boutique chiusura rossa para tods con
My suggestion is that you really read the labels. Often, there are "natural" soaps that have artificial fragrances. If the label says "fragrance" that usually means it is synthetic. Don't be fooled by buzzwords--if it is not an essential oil, it is not natural! Be healthy. Thanks for your information, I want to share something about this. Natural Soap We have bought some premade molds and are now learning how to make some molds of our own.
We also want to keep a stock of additives and fragrances that you can pick to customize your soaps. Making your own molds sounds great! Most have sulfates and other inorganic chemical additives that you do not want--and fragrance oils are also chemical additives that are an issue for many people. If it is not an essential oil, I always advise staying away from it, as it is NOT a natural scent.
Things to keep in mind if you are going to call soap "natural.
Sandra, How about a bit about soap dishes which help protect your fine soaps? Thank you for the information! We make our own, but the ones you offer are very nice as well! First of all let me tell you, you have got a great blog. I am interested in looking for more of such topics and would like to have further information. Hope to see the next blog soon. Post a Comment. April 09, I always wondered what that meant How does floating make a soap "pure" and what does a soap's integrity have to do with its ability to not sink to the bottom of the bath tub?
First, I read the label. Mostly that means there is animal fat, some palm and coconut oil, salt, acids probably to balance the pHglycerine soap byproducts to moisturizeartificial fragrance; and a preservative, Tetrasodium EDTA, which is made from formaldehyde and sodium cyanide. Tetrasodium EDTA is also a penetration enhancer which breaks down the skin's protective layer.
It seems a little risky to me. The link for "Ivory. Do you want the details?Chinese forgeworld
Me either. Ironically, it is impossible to find the actual ingredient list on the Dove site. You have to go to the Amazon link to find the ingredients. Now for the good stuff Bronner's and Shepherd's Harvest! First, Dr.The pH of healthy skin is between 4. Traditional soap is generally at about a 9, which is far too alkaline.
Even "pH balanced" soaps, including Dove, are generally at a 7, which is neutral, but still too alkaline to be truly good for skin. When you use an alkaline product on skin, it changes the pH, damaging the acid mantle that protects the skin from damage.
It's like stripping the paint and primer off of a lamp post and then wondering why it rusts. Most traditional heavily fragranced soaps I'm looking at you, Irish Spring are terribly drying on skin, and many people who use the old fashioned, traditional soap-and-water routine don't moisturize afterwards, making the oil stripping qualities of these soaps even more harmful, since the skin is left raw to the elements.
Aside from dyes and extra fragrances, Dove soap is very similar to traditional terrible soap. People without a background or education in skin care love to recommend the fragrance free version of Dove soap to people with skin issues, usually adding on, "It's so gentle!
Let's step back from the emotional attachment many people have with this bar and take a look at the facts : the ingredients. You'll notice that the only differences between these bars is that the white bar contains fragrance and the sensitive skin bar contains maltol. They are literally the same bar of soap with a "flavor enhancer" instead of fragrance in different packaging.
Dove knows that sensitive skin demands a totally different kind of care. With that in mind, this isn't just another bar soap stripped down to nothing and parading as sensitive. It's a specially formulated beauty bar with a hypo-allergenic, fragrance free formula tested with dermatologist to give your sensitive skin the special attention it deserves. If Dove knows that sensitive skin demands a totally different kind of care, which it does, why is this bar almost exactly the same as the other bar?
BAR SOAP WAR! Ivory vs. Dove. Which is better?
No, it's not a bar soap stripped down to nothing, because some of these ingredients can be irritants, and should have been taken out. Even on balanced, healthy skinthese bars are not gentle cleansers. Sensitive skin, acne and eczema need more than a bar of soap that's labelled "fragrance free" and "hypoallergenic".
It needs calming, hydrating ingredients and very gentle cleansing, not stripping detergents. It's entertaining that the phrase "parading as sensitive" is used, because that's exactly what Dove is doing with this bar. Sodium Lauroyl Isethionatethe first ingredient in both bars, is a detergent and emulsifier. It dries out skin and has no beneficial properties for the skin.
When this synthetic chemical is handled in labs, it requires safety goggles and gloves to be handled.
Stearic Acid is a fatty acid that acts as an emollient and thickener, and is a good ingredient, if it wasn't counteracted with the other ingredients. Sodium Tallowate or Sodium Palmitate are traditional waxy soaps that bind to oil and dirt and wash them away. These ingredients are very outdated. Now that the science of skin is advancing, we understand that pulling out all of the oils in the skin does far more harm than good. Lauric Acid is a great cleansing ingredient that has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
This would be great if it wasn't combined with detergent and tallow. Sodium Stearate is another traditional soap ingredient that strips the skin of all of its oils. Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a synthetic surfactant which strips oils from your skin and in high concentrations is a skin irritant.
Sodium Cocoate or Sodium Palm Kernelate are also common soap ingredients that strip skin of oil, making it irritating. Tetrasodium EDTA and T etrasodium Etidronate are chelating agents and preservatives that can irritate skin conditions, particularly eczema.Soap is an amazing combination of chemicals that go through some pretty cool changes when you use it.
Think about it. Have you noticed how a bar of soap gets smaller over time? Have you noticed what happens when you use too much of it? The more you use, the more bubbles and lather you produce as the soap mixes with water. Now, have you ever tried cooking soap?Read or download the oxford classical dictionary by simon
In fact, you can actually grow foam monsters in your microwave with a bar of soap. How cool is that? You should have discovered that the Ivory soap fluffed up bigger and created more foam than the Dial soap. How do your results compare? Was your Ivory foam bigger than your Dial as it should have been?
How much bigger was your bigger soap? During the Ivory soap experiment, the reason that the Ivory swells and creates more foam than the Dial soap is because Ivory is full of more air pockets than Dial is.
Notice how the bar of soap itself seems to weigh less than other soaps. Microwaving softens the soap, then heats the water and air inside to expansion, causing the growth you saw. Science is a never-ending learning process. You can take this experiment so far and do so much with it. Try adding water to the resulting foam to see what you get. Try testing different microwaves to see which ones produced results more quickly. You can even test more soap brands to see which one starts to melt first.
There are endless ways to extend this experiment. The only thing you need to remember is to record your results! Bookmark this to easily find it later.

If you have acne-prone skin, using a soap intended for normal skin will not help you. On the other hand, acne soaps may be too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Try a variety of dermatologist-recommended soaps available over the counter in drugstores or grocery stores.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Dove contains fats and oils to provide added moisture to skin 1. For particularly sensitive or acne-prone skin, Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented contains no added fragrances to irritate the skin.
Dove is available at grocery stores and drugstores throughout the country. The Mayo Clinic also suggests Neutrogena to help soothe the symptoms of dry skin 1. Because Neutrogena makes a variety of soaps designed to cure different ailments, patients should check the indications before using any Neutrogena product on the skin. For example, a product containing alpha-hydroxy acid may help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, but would not help sensitive skin.

But when you break the bar of soap into several pieces, there are no large pockets of air inside. If it floats in water and has no pockets of air, it must mean that the soap itself is less dense than water. Ivory soap floats because it has air pumped into it during the manufacturing process.
The air-filled soap was actually discovered by accident in by an employee at Proctor and Gamble. While mixing up a batch of soap, the employee forgot to turn off his mixing machine before taking his lunch break. This caused so much air to be whipped into the soap that the bars floated in water. The response by the public was so favorable that Proctor and Gamble continued to whip air into the soap and capitalized on the mistake by marketing their new creation as "The Soap that Floats!

Or are they both equal? I wasn't aware that Dove and Ivory made baby soaps, and if you're talking about the regular versions then the answer is neither.

Your baby would end up getting some in his or her eyes and things would just go downhill from there. You don't actually NEED any soap on a baby, water alone is just fine my baby can't have soap because of her eczema.
For my son we always used Johnson and Johnson, just find a no-tear formulation. Neither, Johnson and Johnson is the best for babies.
Dove and Ivory can cause irration and such. I even get rashes some times from that kind of soap. Actually, ivory soap may be more gentle than baby wash. It has no dyes or perfumes in it. I wouldn't worry about using it on your baby. You will want to make sure to rinse him or her well though, because bar soap can leave a residue behind.
MY son had sensitive skin and dove was actually the only one I could use on him, just make sure it is baby soap which ever one you go with they all should have less chemicals and per fum in it.
I'm not so sure. I usually use Dove. My sister has a baby who is five months old and she uses Johnson soap for her baby's baths.
It's the best soap! Plus you can get Johnson Baby products.
Dove or ivory soap for infant?
I spent most of my life in a Dermatologists' office. I could not even set at my desk at school and lay my bare arms on the desk without them breaking out badly. No makeup or anything with perfumes. When I had my girls I was told to only use what I could handle on my skin on them. They could not wear the ,just coming on the market, disposable diapers, something in the "stay dry" lining broke them out in rashes. The only lotion I found I could use was Baby Magic, period.Append polyfill
Well there is my life I carry Baby Magic with me and use it as a hand wash when I am out. The Ivory never broke out my girls and they grew up with beautiful skin. They did not have the problems I had, Thank God.
I found out many years later what was in the "stay dry" lining of diapers, when I was driving truck and hauling chemicals, there is this little mixture of MEK, isopropyl alcohol, caustic and a few other interesting ingredients, I hauled it from Five Mile Island in WV to Dow Chemical in Midland MI.
Got a breath of it while unloading it and ended up with double pleurisy, yeah. Bad stuff, they showed me it draws the moisture away from your skin, thus the stay dry component. Just thought you might like to know what is on your baby's little bottom. Answer Save. This Site Might Help You. RE: Dove or ivory soap for infant?
